A huge poster reproduction of American artist Paul Davis' iconic painting of Che Guevara. The image was created for the cover of the February 1968 issue of the leftist journal Evergreen Review in the months following Guevara's death in October 1967. In July of 1968 the offices of Grove Press, the publisher of Evergreen Review, were bombed with a hand grenade by anti-Castro Cubans, thought to be in retaliation for publishing Guevara's diaries and the saint-like cover image. It's goal was to overthrow the U.S.-backed dictatorial Somoza family. Led by figures like Daniel Ortega, they achieved their goal, ruling until 1990 after implementing reforms in education, healthcare, and land reform, while engaging in conflict with U.S.-backed Contras. The party was founded by individuals deeply embedded in the military command linked to right-wing death squads during the country's civil war.
