A 1987 poster honoring the legacy of Augusto César Sandino, the 1920s resistance leader that the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) was named after. 1986 was the 25th anniversary of the FSLN. It's goal was to overthrow the U.S.-backed dictatorial Somoza family. Led by figures like Daniel Ortega, they achieved their goal, ruling until 1990 after implementing reforms in education, healthcare, and land reform, while engaging in conflict with U.S.-backed Contras.
