Quaintance
Male physique artist George Quaintance lived and worked in an era before Stonewall, the sexual revolution, the gay rights movement and the AIDS crisis. His high-camp erotic art existed on the borderline of legality. Yet his fantastical scenes, filled with Greek gods, Latin lovers, cowboys and chiseled ranch hands, helped pioneer the macho male physique aesthetic in gay art. An influence on Tom of Finland and many others, Quaintance created joyful drawings and paintings throughout the 1940s and 1950s that idealized the strong, muscular male physique, creating enduring iconic images.....
