May/June 1979 issue of the Lesbian Tide, the first lesbian magazine published in the United States. Feminist and lesbian-rights activist Jeanne Córdova began the publication as the newsletter of the Daughters of Bilitis, an lesbian group that began in 1955 as a social club but quickly became a support organization. By the early 1970s, a division had grown between the older generation and the younger more radical one which included Córdova. She renamed the newsletter in 1972 to follow a national, more political agenda. The front cover advertises "disco, nukes.....
