Language I-IV: Dwan Gallery
The complete set of four exhibition postcards for the Dwan Gallery's highly-influential "Language Shows," beginning with 1967's "Language to be Looked at and/or Things to be Read" curated by Robert Smithson and Sol LeWitt. The Dwan Gallery was among the first to produce exhibits focusing on language, and the 1967 group show brought together works by Duchamp, Smithson, LeWitt, On Kawara, Jasper Johns, Carl Andre, Picabia and Ad Reinhardt, among others. In the book "Words to Be Looked At: Language in 1960s Art" Liz Kotz writes: "The four exhibitions helped crystallize a new practice of language-based art that was modeled chiefly on sculpture." One group exhibition was held each year during June in 1967, 1968, 1969 and 1970. Item #922.
