The exhibiton poster for Salvatore Scarpitta's (1919-2007) June/July, 1961 show at Dwan Gallery, Los Angeles. Known for his wrapped and shaped canvases, Scarpitta was represented by Leo Castelli for almost his entire career and had ten solo shows with Castelli in New York. He was also the owner of a sprint car racing team, and automobile themes sometimes showed up in his artworks, which were often seen as a bridge between American Pop and Italian Arte Povera. In 2014, the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, DC presented a major exhibiton of his work. An early Scarpitta poster with an image from his most iconic series of works. Item #793.
