The Secret Birds
American artist Tony Fitzpatrick’s bird collages weave together poetry, cartoons, tattoo iconography, and more, creating deeply layered and meaningful depictions of birds. In his work, birds appear alongside folklore, myth, and history, revealing the complexities of seeing wild creatures through the lens of human meaning-making. Together, these elements create works that reflect the intimate and collective forms of knowledge through which we experience and make sense of the world.
Tony Fitzpatrick’s work is held in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, and the National Museum of American Art in Washington, DC. Out of print.
