Caracol Chicano Newspaper: Broken Run of 31 Issues (1975-1979)
A broken run of 31 issues of the Chicano periodical Caracol, a journal published in San Antonio in the mid-to-late 1970s. These issues span dates starting with the January 1976 issue to June 1979.
Caracol was established to be a forum of Chicano consciousness and to present contemporary politics and the arts from a Hispanic point of view. The title, which means "snail" in Spanish evokes a spiral of self-expansion and was inspired by Oliver Wendell Holmes's poem "The Chambered Nautilus."
Issues include fiction, poetry, political news and commentary, women's rights, reviews and reporting on Chicano arts, plus artworks such as woodcuts and comics. Issues were offset printed on newsprint and staplebound. Text in Spanish and English. A rare collection consisting of a major portion of the output of this important regional periodical. Note many copies are Ex-Library.
