A complete collection of Hungarian-born artist, designer and art theorist György Kepes's Vision + Value series. Published between 1965 and 1966, this set of six anthologies brings together essays and illustrations from artists, designers, architects and scientists exploring key topics in visual culture. Each volume is organized around a central theme: The Education of Vision; Structure in Art and Science; The Nature and Art of Motion; Module, Symmetry, Proportion, Rhythm; Sign, Image, Symbol; and The Man-Made Object.
By bringing together physicists, mathematicians, composers, designers, historians and other thinkers, Kepes creates a space to explore the possibilities that emerge when disciplinary boundaries are crossed and knowledge is shared. The essays contemplate the ways visual experience shapes human awareness and problem-solving. Contributors include R. Buckminster Fuller, Christopher Alexander, John Cage, Saul Bass, Ad Reinhardt, Marshall McLuhan, Paul Rand and many others.
Kepes taught design at the New Bauhaus, where he worked to bridge art and science through both his theoretical writings and his pioneering experiments in kinetic and light-based art.
