Purple Number 12, Summer 2002
The 12th issue of Purple's Volume II series, which ran from 1998 to 2003. Documenting fashion, prose, fiction, interiors and contemporary culture, this Summer 2002 issue features contributions from photographers Wolfgang Tillmans, Takashi Homma and Chikashi Suzuki, as well as artist Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, critic Jeff Rian and many others.
Additionally, this issue features the writings and work of Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan. Peppered throughout the issue are a brief interview, a visual essay and photographs created by Cattelan in collaboration with British photographer Mark Borthwick.
Purple, Founded in 1992 by Fleiss and Zahm, began as a magazine created in reaction to the perceived superficial glamour of the 1980s. With anti-fashion and avant-garde ideals at the core of its founding, Purple's aesthetic is closer to that of a fanzine than a traditional fashion publication.
Since then, the company has expanded to include a publishing house, an art gallery and several magazines dedicated to fashion (Purple Fashion), sexuality (Purple Sexe) and literary criticism (Purple Fiction). Through these ventures, Purple has established itself as a distinctive and influential force in the international fashion and cultural landscape. Item #2134.
