The photographic work of partners Ruth-Marion Baruch and Pirkle Jones documenting the Black Panther Party in the late 1960s. The duo sought to present the public with a different perspective on the organization, portraying its members as symbols of pride, dignity and strength during a time when they were vilified by the media.
Granted access to the organization's inner circles, Baruch and Jones captured intimate moments that reveal the lived experiences of a movement dedicated to self-definition and social justice. These photographs provide a vital glimpse into a significant chapter of American history, one that has too often been erased, overlooked, or misrepresented in mainstream historical narratives.
