Authored by American food writer John Thorne, this collection of five now scarce booklets from the early 1980s represents some of the earliest iterations of Thorne’s work. These self-published culinary booklets would later evolve into his ongoing newsletter, Simple Cooking, first launched in 1983.
Each booklets focuses on a single topic, allowing Thorne to capture the impulses, stories and small details that shape home cooking, elements often lost in the polished recipe writing of the 1980s and 1990s. The collection includes these titles:
