Rufino Tamayo: Trajectories
Rare in the United States, this edition of 2,000 was published on the occasion of Mexican painter Rufino Tamayo’s 2012 exhibition at Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo. A retrospective look at Tamayo’s work, it showcases the evolution of his paintings through thematic sections including images of Mexico, Surrealism, still lifes, female nudes, landscape and figures. Tracing the development of his artistic practice, these recurring subjects reveal the central explorations and visual themes that distinguish Tamayo’s work as uniquely his own.
Rufino Tamayo is known for his unique synthesis of avant-garde styles with influences drawn from his Mexican heritage and Zapotec roots, using figurative abstraction to depict modern Mexican subjects.
