The Legacy of Hilma af Klint: Nine Contemporary Responses
Published on the occasion of Swedish artist Hilma af Klint’s inclusion in the 2013 Venice Biennale and featuring her explorations of the intersections between the occult and nature, it opens with a full-color reproduction of a previously unseen 1920 notebook by af Klint titled Blumen, Moose, Flechten (“Flowers, Mosses, Lichens”). Filled with illustrations, diagrams and handwritten commentary in German, it offers an intimate look at the unique geometric visual language she used to conceptualize the invisible forces of the visible and metaphysical realms.
A collection of responses to af Klint’s work by nine contemporary artists follows, engaging with her legacy through both visual works and essays. Artists include Cecilia Edefalk, R. H. Quaytman, Amy Sillman and others. Out of print. Item #2117.
