Picasso: The Mediterranean Years, 1945-1962
Published on the occasion of the 2010 Picasso exhibition at the Gagosian Gallery, London, the exhibition highlighted works from Picasso’s most prolific creative period, when he spent increasing time in the French Riviera after World War II. The exhibit was curated by Picasso's grandson, Bernard Ruiz-Picasso ,and Picasso’s biographer, Sir John Richardson.
This return to the South of France introduced notable influences on Picasso’s work, drawing on Mediterranean sources of inspiration and reflecting a newfound closeness with his family. These elements are evident in the expansion of his sculptural practice and his experimentation with new media, including printmaking, ceramics and lithography.
Featuring three single and four double gatefold illustrations, countless full-color renderings of Picasso's paintings, sculptures, prints and ceramics, and including a detachable 23-page booklet of Picasso’s pencil and ink drawings, the resulting monograph offers an intimate exploration of this period in Picasso’s prolific career. Out of print.
