Wim Crouwel: Alphabets
Through interviews with art historian Kees Broos, Dutch graphic designer and typographer Wim Crouwel explains the methodologies behind his systematic and influential approach to type design. Among the works discussed are digital typefaces developed in collaboration with the London-based typeface design studio The Foundry in 1996, including his parametric typeface New Alphabet, which uses only horizontal and vertical strokes, as well as the Stedelijk Alphabet and the more baroque Fodor Alphabet.
Accompanied by numerous illustrations of Crouwel’s work and a detailed introduction to his typographic style by fellow graphic designer David Quay, these conversations shed new light on Crouwel’s typography revealing previously untold stories behind his work and offering a deeper understanding of his creative philosophies.
