Blue Ribbons: Nike Vintage Shoes 1968-1980
Born from the collection of author, freelance editor and clothing and graphic designer Takatoshi Akutagawa, this scarce catalogue documents 80 models and 150 pairs of shoes from the first decade of Nike’s existence. Intrigued by the creative spark inherent in Nike’s early designs, Akutagawa examines the identity and innovation embedded in these formative products, as well as their enduring appeal. Bringing together detailed photographs and descriptions of vintage models, alongside interspersed essays on the brand’s birth and transformation from Blue Ribbon Sports to Nike in 1971 and the continued relationship between the Oregon-based company and Japan, including the establishment of manufacturing in Fukuoka beginning in 1972, the volume offers an alternative and supplementary history of Nike’s legacy and influence. Text in Japanese and English. Out of print. Item #2100.
