Solidarity with the People of South Africa Poster (Circa 1976)
Anti-apartheid poster published by OSPAAAL, the Organization of Solidarity of the People of Asia, Africa and Latin America, with their logo in the lower left. OSPAAAL was established in Cuba in 1966 and produced anti-imperialist posters supporting socialism, armed liberation and solidarity among oppressed peoples. Text in English, Spanish, French, and Arabic.
Designed by Cuban artist Víctor Manuel Navarrete, black-and-white collaged images depict a wounded child and a scene of a political demonstration being violently suppressed by police. The juxtaposition of these images highlights the brutality of apartheid and expresses solidarity with the Black anti-apartheid movements in South Africa resisting the oppressive and inhumane actions of the authoritarian white government.
