FMLN 9th Anniversary Silkscreen Poster (1989)
A silkscreen poster celebrating the 9th anniversary of the FMLN (the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front) of El Salvador.
The FMLN originated as a coalition of five guerrilla organizations in 1980 and engaged in a 13-year civil war against the U.S.-backed military government, advocating for land reform, social justice and opposing rampant inequality and state repression. They eventually signed peace accords in 1992 to become a legal political party, and won the presidency in 2009.
The image depicts an El Salvadoran community gathering, including some armed young soldiers with "Vamos al Tope - FMLN" in graffiti behind them, roughly translating to "full speed ahead" or "to the limit." Printed in black, pink, and gold metallic ink on heavier weight paper stock. In the lower left are the words "El Salvador: Forward Until the Victory."
Primary art credit is attributed to Terry Forman and Scott Braley with design and printing by Fireworks Graphics of San Francisco. Item #2084.
Condition: Very Good, some soft creasing from previous rolling, more prominent along left side with a diagonal crease to top left corner; a few tiny spots of edgewear; an area of faint foxing at lower right (see detail image).
