Hiroshima: Solidarity with the Japanese People Poster (1972)
Anti-Nuclear bomb/solidarity poster published by OSPAAAL, the Organization of Solidarity with the People of Asia, Africa and Latin America, with their logo in the lower right. OSPAAAL was established in Cuba in 1966 and produced anti-imperialist posters supporting socialism, armed liberation and solidarity among oppressed peoples. Text in English, Spanish, French, and Arabic.
Depicting child’s face, partially obscured and rendered with a burned-paper effect mimicking the shape of the Japanese islands and the Hiroshima blast area, Cuban graphic designer Daniel García employs a simple yet powerful composition. August 6, the date of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in 1945, is printed in the lower right.
Copies of this poster are held in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum (UK) and the Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas at Austin.
