Richard Prince: John Duke
Issued in an edition of 300 copies, this rare artists' book by American conceptual artist Richard Prince features manipulated black-and-white images featuring John Wayne (the Duke) from his films, often altered with drawings and other reworkings by Prince. Plus a few of Prince's jokes sprinkled throughout.
Best known for his work in appropriation, Prince engages with “stolen” imagery—often lifted from magazines and other found media—which he manipulates through processes such as cutting and drawing on or near the images before rephotographing them. Item #2012.
Condition: Very Good, with some indentation marks to back cover; small corner bumps to top right corners of front and back covers; back cover has denting along top edge; bumps to top and bottom of spine; now in a custom-made protective mylar jacket.
