Interfaith Day Poster (1953)
Poster for Interfaith Day, designed by legendary American graphic designer Paul Rand. Interfaith Day was an annual New York celebration promoting peace, tolerance, and mutual understanding among different religions. Rand designed multiple posters for the event over the years, creating them during the historically tumultuous period of the 1940s and early 1950s, a time of heightened tension, particularly for Jewish communities in the aftermath of World War II. As a member of New York’s Jewish community, Rand used his poster design work to promote unity and understanding among diverse groups.
Paul Rand was a pioneering American graphic designer, best known for his iconic corporate logos (IBM, UPS, NeXT), contributions to advertising design, and his role in shaping the American Modernist style.
