Leonora Carrington: The Oval Lady, Surreal Stories
A collection of six short stories by the renowned Surrealist author and painter Leonora Carrington, whose influential role in the Surrealist movements in Paris and Mexico City placed her among notable figures such as Max Ernst and André Breton. Each story is accompanied by black-and-white illustrations by Mexican artist Pablo Weisz.
These six mysterious and unsettling parables center on the symbolic imagery of the egg, which Carrington likens to the female deity. Drawing from alchemy, tarot, witchcraft, and mythology, the stories collectively explore her concept of the “Oval Lady” and its deep connection to femininity and the occult.
Originally published in French in the late 1930s, the collection was finally translated into English in 1975. Item #1910.
