The Art in Jewels of Salvador Dali Poster (1968)

A striking, silkscreened exhibition poster/placard published in conjunction with the 1968 traveling exhibition of Salvador Dalí’s Jewels, presented at the Portland Art Museum. The poster features bold graphic fonts in brilliannt green and blue hues, while the accompanying flyer depicts the notable work The Eye of Time and provides additional information about the exhibition, noting: “The entire collection, lent by the Owens Chetham Foundation, will be on view for 15 days only.”

The exhibition showcased 34 jeweled works, accompanied by drawings and works on paper created by Dalí during the design process. These stunning pieces were crafted under Dalí’s supervision by Argentine-born silversmith Carlos Alemany. Each element was personally selected by Dalí not only for its aesthetic value and color, but also for its symbolic meaning—making the hearts, lips, eyes, animal forms, religious symbols, and anthropomorphic shapes even more impactful.
