Guerrilla Vol. 1, No. 2

The rare second and final issue of the short-lived Detroit radical underground newspaper Guerrilla, edited by Allen Van Newkirk and an editorial team at the Detroit Artists Workshop Press. Contributors include notable figures such as Sun Ra, Diane di Prima, Michael McClure, and more.

Born during the Detroit summer riots of 1967 and at the height of the Detroit Free Press literary movement, Guerrilla positioned itself as a revolutionary voice for radical thought, poetry, and news.

This issue features poetry by Diane di Prima and Robert Kelly; essays on music by Gilbert Sorrentino and John Sinclair; a letter on film by Stan Brakhage; and a poem to Georg Büchner by Michael McClure—all accompanied by evocative illustrations, photography, and cartoons.

Van Newkirk also published oversized posters/broadsides under the moniker "Guerrilla: The Free Newspaper of the Streets.” Item #1861.
