Mickalene Thomas: Origin of the Universe
In Mickalene Thomas’s first museum exhibition, The Origin of the Universe, Thomas utilizes elaborate mixed-media paintings composed of rhinestones, acrylic, and enamel to explore the visual culture of African-American beauty, sexuality identity, and power. The resulting publication contains a diverse selection of vibrant, full-color reproductions of her work–many of which were never before published–alongside an interview with the artist and insightful critical essays that delve into her paintings' themes.
As of March 2024, Thomas is presenting a new internationally touring solo exhibition, All About Love, which builds upon the core themes central to her practice. Out of print. Item #1755.
