The Street Wall Journal: Set of 3 Posters (1970)
A set of three posters/broadsides issued by the Committee to Defend the Panther 21 and sold on the campus of Columbia University to raise funds for their legal defense. Volume 1, nos. 1-3. The posters include a timeline of the state, federal and police raids/actions against the Black Panthers and call for a student and general strikes, and demonstrations. Rare as a set of three.
The "Street Wall Journal" name was also used for some posters/broadsides issued at Stanford University, circa 1968-1970, focusing on anti-Vietnam war and campus politics. There is also at least one other "Street Wall Journal" published by the Committee to Defend the Panthers, printed on newsprint, stating "Vol. 1, first of 9" although it does not appear nine issues were ever released. Item #1737.
Condition: Overall Near Fine-, the "Panthers" and "Toward a General Strike" posters are in fine condition; some thinning and small holes to the parchment-like paper of the "Why We Strike" poster along bottom and left edges.
