Andrei Roiter: Bon Voyage

From the publisher: International artist Andrei Roiter, born in Moscow in 1960 and trained as an architect, has called both Amsterdam and New York his home since 1990, while continuing to visit family in Moscow. This exhibition catalog from the Stedelijk Museum is a survey of his ironic yet somehow romantic paintings, sculpture and works on paper from the last 20 years. Roiter is a ceaseless traveler who erects the decor of his own life as a passer-by and lends it the power of metaphor. His drawings and models of newly imagined waiting rooms, watchtowers, restrooms, luggage and shelters - all the accoutrements of travel - draw our attention to the burdens we carry, and create a personal iconography of memory, of the things we can't escape when we unpack. With essays by Wilma Sütö and David Coggins, plus a bio/CV, exhibition checklist and bibliography on the artist. Out of print. Item #1689.
