Leap Into Freedom Poster: West Berlin (Circa 1975)

A vintage poster of the famous image of an East German border guard, Konrad Schumann, jumping barbed wire to escape into West Germany during the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961. Issued by "Arbeitsgemeinschaft 13. August" the organization founded by human rights activist Rainer Hildebrandt and named after the date construction began on the Berlin Wall. The organization also established the Haus am Checkpoint Charlie which later became the Mauermuseum (Wall Museum)/Haus am Checkpoint Charlie.

The photo was taken by West German photographer Peter Leibing and the image became known as the "leap into freedom". The full credit text running along the left side is "Herausgeber: Arbeitsgemeinschaft 13. August e. V., Adresse: Haus am Checkpoint Charlie (Berlin) West". Undated, but due to information from previous owner and printing characteristics we estimate this as a vintage circa 1975 poster. An iconic image from the Cold War era in a rare, large format vintage poster. No copies currently found online. Item #1643.

Condition: Very Good, light edgewear with a bit more prominent edge creases/bumps along the bottom edge; some surface dimpling; light evidence on back of poster of small areas of moisture staining along bottom edge, only faintly visible on front of poster; some age toning to paper, a bit more prominent along top edge; overall very nice.
