Forestry of Japan (1910) with Japan Forest Office Letter (1915)
A scarce relatively early official title in English (1910) on the forestry of Japan produced by the country's Department of Agriculture & Commerce at its Bureau of Forestry. With 12 black and white collotype photographs of various forest scenes and tree specimens.
From the collection of W.B. Chase, who was a music critic and editor at the New York Times and the New York Sun during the years 1896-1935. His obituary notes travels in Japan and China, and a love of books. With a folded an typed letter laid-in, dated Dec. 27, 1915, to "Mr. William B. Chase c/o The Evening Sun, New York" from a R. Nakia (hand signed) of the Tokyo District of the Major Forest Office/Japan expressing gratitude for the "cordial treatment bestowed upon me when I was at Yosemite Valley" and offering the book as a gift. Item #1554.
Condition: Very Good-, small spot to front cover near bottom; edgewear and rubbing to covers; light wear at top and bottom of spine; toning to pages.
