Japanese Pictures of Japanese Life

A rare copy of one of the delightful wood-block on crepe paper books produced by Takejiro Hasegawa in Japan at the beginning of the 20th century. This in a larger size (5.75" x 7.5") than the popular Japanese Fairy Tale Series, and being mostly pictorial representations of traditional life in Japan with little text. The 10 Hiyoshicho address on the title page indicates this is an earlier printing.

Created for the Western market, Hasegawa's books were known for their high quality in all aspects - paper, ink, execution of the illustrations and woodblock printing, and quality of binding. Item #1548.

Condition: Very Good, edgewear, light spotting to back cover and a .25" indentation visible on the last 8 pages; plus a 1" dent/scratch to back cover.
