James Joyce Poster Print (1970)
A rare, oversize poster print of the great writer James Joyce featuring the famous photo by Berenice Abbott, that she took in her Paris studio in 1928. With a copyright of "1970 Michael Howden" and "Distributed by Shakespeare, Berkeley" in the lower left corner. The "Shakespeare, Berkeley" apparently refers to the bookstore Shakespeare & Co., located on Telegraph Avenue (across from Moe's Books) in Berkeley, CA from 1964 to 2015. It is unclear why the poster has a copyright for Michael Howden (or who he was - if anyone knows please get in touch), unless perhaps he licensed the Abbott photograph for this poster print.
Printed on ivory-colored heavier weight paper stock. With a printing credit for Tea Lautrec Litho/San Francisco in the lower right corner. Levon Mosgofian ran that print shop and printed many of the Bay Area's iconic counterculture and music posters of the 1960s. Scarce. Item #1490.
Condition: Very Good, toning to paper; pinhole or thumbtack holes in four colors, two having the round impressions of a thumbtack.
Price: $200.00
