Teatro Greco di Siracusa Poster (1954)

A charming 1954 oversize event poster for the Teatro Greco di Siracusa (the Greek Theatre of Syracuse, Italy), promoting productions of Prometeo Incatenato (Prometheus Bound) and Antigone presented by the Istituto Nazionale del Dramma Antico (National Institute of Ancient Drama). With a who's who list of Italian actors, directors and composers involved, including Vittorio Gassman, Luigi Squarzina, Goffredo Petrassi, Gennaro Perrotta, Mario Chiari, Guido Salvini and Fiorenzo Carpi.

The Teatro Greco di Siracusa, a classic example of traditional Greek amphitheater architecture, overlooks the city of Syracuse in southeastern Sicily. It was built in the 5th century BC, and renovated in the Roman period. Today, it is a part of a Unesco World Heritage Site.

The Picasso-esque central image on the poster is by Italian artist Alfonso Amorelli (1898-1969). With a printing credit for La Poligrafica di Vallecchi, Rome, at bottom. Poster text in Italian. Item #1477.

Condition: Very Good+, professionally cleaned, restored and linen-backed with artist canvas; restoration was done to a 2.0" tear in middle image, now only faintly visible, plus repair of minor edgewear/chips and a few small closed tears; now presenting very nicely.
