Japanese-English Buddhist Dictionary (1965)

A rare copy of the first Japanese-English Buddhist dictionary published in Japan. An initial editorial conference was held in 1958 with over 10 Japanese scholars and Dr. Richard Gard of Yale University and Stanley Weinstein of London University. A process ensued to select 5,000 passages from a previous publication of over 24,000 passages by distributing the work to 20 scholars. The selections were then edited for this English presentation. The preface lists the large editorial group that contributed to the project. Text in English and Japanese. Item #1469.

Condition: Very Good-, scuffing with some chips, scrapes and rubbing to half-leather covers with a 1" tear to leather near top of spine; spotting to top text block; lacking a dust jacket if issued with one.
