A collection of 22 issues of the New York architecture magazine known as ANY. A predecessor to the journal Log (see our other listing for a complete set of that journal), it shares the same editor in Cynthia Davidson. The editorial board has included Tadao Ando, Rem Koolhaas, Sylvia Lavin, Sanford Kwintner and others.
The collection includes issues 0, 2, 3, 5, 10-27, and 90 (appearing inbetween issues 14 and 15 as an ode to Philip Johnson on his 90th birthday). Issues 19/20 and 25/26 are double issues but still only 62 pages each. A total of 29 issues were published between 1993-2000. Twelve issues in the collection are out of print, and the first four issues in this set were designed by Massimo Vignelli. Issue 2 is a tribute to James Stirling, issue 3 focuses on the electronic future of architecture, and issue 4 covers the theme of lightness. Other single issue themes include whiteness, memory, Buckminster Fuller, play, diagram work, design after Mies van der Rohe, tectonics, and more. Issue 27 consists of loose leaf pages that fold out into 25" x 32" posters. In issue 0 Davidson introduces ANY as a tabloid that "inserts itself as a writing between the existing commercial and professional journals and the intellectual and scholarly reviews...placing it between the fast media of representation and the slow academic hindsight of intellectual journals."
