Franklin Furnace was founded in 1976 by Martha Wilson "to champion ephemeral forms neglected by mainstream arts institutions". It began as an artists' books store, and when Printed Matter opened up a few blocks away, through a mutual agreement, Printed Matter became an artists' books store and Franklin Furnace became an artists' books archive. It now operates out of the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Item #1446.
