Advertised as "a masterpiece by a master (in colors)" and "a bewildering collection of Modern Ornamental Art bristling with new and up-to-date ideas and designs...", this is the original 1910 edition of this wonderful guide to lettering, signmaking, ornamental borders and advertising at the turn of the century. With several images printed in full color and including hundreds of examples of period design, layout examples, deco stylings, show cards and advertising templates, ornamental and border flourishes, and nine "brand new alphabets" with all letters shown A-Z. Rare in this original 1910 edition, a revised edition was issued in 1917. Item #1433.
Condition: Good-, rubbing/scuffing to cover and cover edges; previous owner's name in pen on title page; horizontal crease to front free endpaper; one page fully torn and retaped in, another with a 4" tear, a few others with edge tears to the somwhat brittle pages w; rear free endpaper chipped with tears and detached; now in a custom made protective mylar jacket.
