Native Dwellings of the Pacific Area Mural-Map (1940); Plate V: Pageant of the Pacific
The print edition map reproducing Miguel Covarrubias' mural "Native Dwellings of the Pacific," one of six murals in the series "The Pageant of the Pacific" commissioned for the Golden Gate Exposition of 1939. Covarrubias was a contemporary of Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo and other prominent Mexican artists of the period. He died in 1957 in Mexico City. After the Exposition, the six murals were loaned to the American Museum of Natural History (New York) and exhibited there until 1953, then placed in storage until 1959.
