An exhibition flyer/poster for James Castle's second solo exhibition, which took place October 28-November 18, 1962 at the Bush House Museum in Salem, Oregon. His first show was in 1955 at Portland's Museum Art School. Issue No. 3 of the Journal for the Protection of All Beings ("a Visionary and Revolutionary Review," only three issues were published), which features poetry, song lyrics and images produced in response to the National Guard's presence at People's Park in Berkeley in 1969. Proceeds from the book went to the People's Park Defense Fund. People's Park, long an epicenter and gathering place for counterculture and resistance, is in the news again lately for UC Berkeley's plan to build student housing on the site. An original artists' book of male erotica/pornography collaged into an issue of W Magazine. Every page has been collaged, and with an average of 4 or 5 collaged images per page, some even with 10 or more images (easily over 1,000 total), the endeavor represents a huge amount of time and care in creating the work. There are also peek-a-boo moments where an image has been "tipped-in" from the bottom (glued down along only the bottom edge) so that the image can be partially lifted away to reveal another sexy scene.....
