The Naked Heartland: The Itinerant Photography of Bruce of Los Angeles
Documenting Bruce Bellas' (Bruce of Los Angeles) more "raw" nude male photography prior to his West Coast fame and the stylized physique model photos. These images were taken largely in Nebraska in the late 1930s, many of the models being military men or hitchhikers. He would photograph them in hotel rooms or outdoors, and develop the prints himself. Bellas went on to become Bruce of Los Angeles, shooting male physique and bodybuilder photographs, working for the magazines that began appearing in the 1940s-'50s of male physique photos, often with homoerotic.....
