Documenting Bruce Bellas' (Bruce of Los Angeles) more "raw" nude male photography prior to his West Coast fame and the stylized physique model photos. These images were taken largely in Nebraska in the late 1930s, many of the models being military men or hitchhikers. He would photograph them in hotel rooms or outdoors, and develop the prints himself. Bellas went on to become Bruce of Los Angeles, shooting male physique and bodybuilder photographs, working for the magazines that began appearing in the 1940s-'50s of male physique photos, often with homoerotic.....

A set of three medical drawings on index cards by Dr. Siegfried Berthelsdorf (1911-2011), done in 1935 when he was a student at the University of Oregon. He continued his studies in psychiatry in New York City, graduating from the New York Psychoanalytic Institute in 1952. In 1953, he moved to Portland where he began private practice as the first psychoanalyst in Oregon. He was also a founding member of the Oregon Psychoanalytic Foundation. A vintage poster by Portland graphic designer Steven Birch with the image of Malcolm X and the phrase "Fight the Power!". Inspiration likely came from the band Public Enemy, who were touring the states in 1988-1990 with the release of their albums "It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back" and "Fear of a Black Planet". The song "Fight the Power" originally appeared on the soundtrack of Spike Lee's film "Do the Right Thing" and later on "Fear of a Black Planet". Printed on heavier, glossy paper stock.....

A hand-colored etching of Middlesex by Emanuel Bowen "Divided into its hundreds containing the Cities of London and Westminster, Market Towns..." Emanuel Bowen was a Welsh map engraver, who became the Royal Mapmaker to both King George II of Great Britain and Louis XV of France. Bowen was highly regarded by his contemporaries for producing some of the most detailed and most accurate maps of his era.

A retrospective of 201 photographs in color by Carlquist from the years 1986-2006. Unusual as most of Carquist's previous photobooks feature only black and white images. His "Natural Man" series captured the male nude in the natural environment, with many of the photographs taken in the unusual garden at his Hope Ranch home, as well as near Joshua Tree, Big Sur, and the Sierra. Most of Carlquist's models were uncircumcised. Carlquist was a educator, botanist, and Guggenheim Fellow, and taught at Claremont Graduate School, Pomona College and UC Santa Barbara.....
